Diversity, cultural understanding, and global awareness (March 7-13, 2016)
Course Objectives:
1) The readings this week focus on diversity both within and outside of the United States as it relates to the use of technology in education with a particular focus on the digital divide. (Visit our diigo group to see my highlights on the articles that would allow for it.)

- Model and promote diversity, cultural understanding, and global awareness by using digital-age communication and collaboration tools to interact locally and globally with students, peers, parents, and the larger community (ISTE 5c)
Module Objectives:
- Read and reflect upon a variety of readings surrounding cultural understanding and diversity.
- Participate in a conversation surrounding cultural understanding and diversity.
- The New Literacy: Scenes from the Digital Divide 2.0 (This has 5 parts. Please read all 5.)
- The Participation Divide: Content Creation and Sharing in the Digital Age (Click on PDF to read the article. You are only required to read the introduction and conclusion.)
- Finding a Place in Cyberspace: Black Women, Technology and Identity
- Slamming the Closet Door and Taking Control: Analysis of Personal Transformation and Social Change as LGBT Podcasting Blazes a Trail of Democratization of the Media
- One Laptop Per Child mission (Watch both videos.)
- Can One Laptop per Child Reduce the Digital Divide and Educational Gap? Evidence from a Randomized Experiment from Migrant Schools in Beijing (You are only required to read the introduction and conclusion.)
