Equitable Access to Digital Tools and Resources (January 11-17, 2016)

Course Objectives:
  1. Model and promote strategies for achieving equitable access to digital tools and resources and technology-related best practices for all students and teachers (ISTE 5a)
Module Objectives: 
  1. Read about and reflect upon Massive Open Online Courses and BYOD initiatives.  
  2. Participate in a sample MOOC and reflect upon your experience.

1) To begin thinking more about equitable access to digital tools and resources, we will be reading and thinking about two different phenomena in educational technology today: MOOCs (rhymes with flukes) and BYOD.  Watch the following videos, read the following articles and take notes as you watch/read.  Then, write reflective post #2 on your blog. 
2) This week, you will self-evaluate your post using the Reflective Post Rubric found on Blackboard and under Rubrics (on the right side of this blog, under Pages).  Once you have written and evaluated your post, send me an email with a link to your post, the grade you would give your post and an explanation based on the rubric.

3) Your activity for this week is to sign up and go through this MOOCedX Demo.  It's not a real course, rather it shows you how the edX courses work to give you an idea of what it might be like to take a massive open online course.  Once finished going through the course (it takes about 30 min).  Create a blog post describing your experience.  What are your thoughts on MOOCs in education?  Are they the future of learning?  Who do they benefit and who do they harm?  Can you see them making their way into K-12 environments?  Any other thoughts?  When finished, visit the blog of a classmate and leave a comment.
